Characteristics
Chlorine gas - liquid
Liquid chlorine is a clear liquid with a penetrating odor and yellow-green color. It has a viscosity equal to one third that of water. It evaporates quickly when exposed to air. The density of the fluid decreases and its volume increases as its temperature increases. Chlorine gas has a density of two and a half times that of air, so it tends to accumulate in low places if it escapes into the atmosphere.
Applications
Primarily for the production of long-lived products such as vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) which is raw material for PVC production.
Titanium dioxide production (raw material for white paints), bleaching of cellulose in the pulp and paper industry, production of agrochemicals, water treatment and purification, and chemical industry in general.
Chlorine is sold in the following presentations: 68-kg cylinders, 907-kg containers, and 80-metric tons tank trucks.
Product handling
Chlorine should always be used following the first-come first-used principle, because the packaging of the valve can become hard after prolonged storage, increasing the possibility of leakage.
