Chlorine vynil

Chlorine vinyl

The chemistry is based in common salt

Salt is the origin of the chlorine-vinyl chain, which we convert into chlorine and soda. We add value to chlorine through the vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), ethylene plus chlorine, which, when converted to PVC, is used to make many different products. PVC is used predominately in housing and infrastructure construction; for example, it is used to make pipe, which is used in homes as well as in large-diameter water and drainage pipes, and also to manufacture cable coatings, window frames, doors, floors, kitchen coatings, closets, bathrooms, ceilings, facades, and many other products.

Soda is used to manufacture soap, shampoo, cream, and detergent and is also used for water treatment. Chlorine is used to produce cleaners, purify water, disinfect floors and walls, bleach paper, and to make white pigments.

Our chlorine-vinyl chain processes include the manufacture of plasticizers and phthalic anhydride. Because phthalic anhydride is the primary raw material for plasticizers.

This chain incorporates the highest value -added processes and products, like PVC compounds and customized products for clients to transform into final products- coatings for cables, blood or dialysis bags, film, toys, etc. These products are made with other additives that meet final product specifications for optimal processing at clients facilities.

Chlorine   Cl2

Characteristics

Chlorine gas - liquid
Liquid chlorine is a clear liquid with a penetrating odor and yellow-green color. It has a viscosity equal to one third that of water. It evaporates quickly when exposed to air. The density of the fluid decreases and its volume increases as its temperature increases. Chlorine gas has a density of two and a half times that of air, so it tends to accumulate in low places if it escapes into the atmosphere.

Applications

  • Primarily for the production of long-lived products such as vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) which is raw material for PVC production.
  • Titanium dioxide production (raw material for white paints), bleaching of cellulose in the pulp and paper industry, production of agrochemicals, water treatment and purification, and chemical industry in general.
  • Chlorine is sold in the following presentations: 68-kg cylinders, 907-kg containers, and 80-metric tons tank trucks.

Producthandling

Chlorine should always be used following the first-come first-used principle, because the packaging of the valve can become hard after prolonged storage, increasing the possibility of leakage.

Sodium Hypochlorite  NaClO

Characteristics

It is a clear or slightly cloudy liquid, yellow-green, with a density of 1.2 kg/l, whose main feature is its reactivity or ability to easily release chlorine; this property provides it with market value.

Applications

This product is mainly used for the manufacture of liquid bleach, used as sanitizer in general, for the treatment and purification of water, and the manufacture of industrial catalysts for the bleaching and de-inking of paper, etc.

Product handling

This product should not be subject to prolonged storage and must be stored in clean, sealed containers with a coating of PVC, fiberglass, or other material resistant to the product, in cool places, away from sunlight and metals, and far from organic materials, acids, and ammonium compounds.

Caustic Soda  NaOH

Characteristics

Lye or caustic soda is the trade name for sodium hydroxide, hence 50% caustic soda is an aqueous solution containing between 48 and 50% by weight of NaOH.

Applications

It has a wide range of applications, with the main ones being the production of oils, soaps, and detergents; regeneration of ion exchange resins for water treatment; glass bottle washing; bleaching of pulp in the pulp and paper industry; refined sugar production; cotton fabric dyeing; production of agrochemicals; manufacture of gelatin and jellies; general cleaning products, etc.

Product handling

  • Caustic soda is transported in tanker truck tanks made of carbon steel or railroad tank cars of the same material.
  • Because caustic soda is highly corrosive, it attacks leather, wool, rubber, phenol-formaldehyde resins, and many metals such as aluminum, magnesium, zinc, lead, copper, tin, and bronze, and galvanized surfaces.

Hydrochloric Acid  HCl

Characteristics

It is a clear to slightly cloudy liquid ranging from colorless to light yellow. Hydrochloric acid is a corrosive liquid at any concentration; it is easily identified by its characteristically irritating odor.

Applications

  • It is used for the production of high fructose which in turn is used as a sweetener in the soft drink, candy, and beer industries; and widely used for the drawing and etching of metals.
  • It is used in the pharmaceutical industry for drug production, manufacture of pigments and dyes, and production of ferric chloride which in turn is used in the lithographic industry, among others.
  • It is used extensively for the manufacture of plastics and rubbers, in the oil industry, and in ceramics.

Product handling

Hydrochloric acid is transported in tanker truck tanks made of carbon steel with a rubberized or glass fiber reinforced coating, and in jugs or drums of high density polyethylene.

Potassium Chloride  KClO3

Characteristics

A white solid in fine granular form, and a strong oxidant.

Applications

Its main application is in the manufacture of matches and fireworks.

Package

50-kg drums net content.

Pennvidral®

Characteristics

The durability of Pennvidral ® solutions is greater than any other because the carbonates are controlled more effectively. This product has the advantage of saving labor in the use of additives while avoiding excessive use and wastage.

Applications

Pennvidral ® is a cleaning product that is mainly used for washing bottles in bottling plants; this product replaces caustic soda and additives used in this operation.

Percloron®

Characteristics

Percloron® is a product that has been developed based on sodium hypochlorite, originally containing 140 grams of active chlorine per liter of solution. Unlike other products for the treatment of swimming pools, Percloron® contains no cyanide derivatives.

Applications

Used as a bactericide and algaecide in pool water treatment, municipal services, and industrial installations.

Package

20-liter jugs

Applications - Soap Soda: is the main input in the production of soap, shampoo, lotion, detergents, and water treatments.

Chlorine: is used to purify water for human consumption, in the production of many medications, to disinfect floors and walls, and to bleach pulp for making paper, among many other uses.

PVC: is used to manufacture durable goods for the construction sector such as pipes for the conveyance of drinking water, discharges or irrigation water, and coatings for conducting wires, window frames, floors, geomembranes, roofing, flooring, and even whole houses. This material is also used to make bags to preserve blood, dialysis equipment, catheters, and many other medical devices.

PVC products are present in every home or business in the form of furniture, decorative items, and functional appliances as well as automobile parts, toys, clothing, packaging, printing, and many other applications.

Compounds

Phthalic anhydride: plasticant manufacturing, which in turn is used to make plastic composites (the final part of the compound chain).

PVC plastic composites: cables, pipes, flexible and rigid film, shoes, curtains, window frames, coatings, and others.

Phosphates: This material can be used to create fertilizers and household, industrial and institutional detergents; ceramics, textiles, fire extinguishers, beverages, processed meats, etc.
